Introduction

Compusult has been tasked to develop the new Canadian GeoConnections Discovery Portal (GDP) providing a gateway to millions of geospatial data products. This portal acts as  single points of entry for users to search, view and obtain geospatial data and services without having to know where, how the data is stored and how services can be accessed.

The GDP portal is built using Compusult's Web Enterprise Suite allowing enhanced discovery, access and download of geospatial information and is based on open standards and specifications ensuring the infrastructure is interoperable with other infrastructures across Canada and around the world.

Web Enterprise Suite Overview

Web Enterprise Suite (WES) is an integrated suite of applications, based on open standards, working together to provide a comprehensive, interoperable, geospatial portal development systems. It provides an interoperable, secure, spatial web services infrastructure necessary for the next generation of geospatial portals and decision management systems.

WES provides the following capabilities:

Geospatial Data Discovery 

Search, manage and discover geospatial data and services from disparate sources including OGC Web Services, EO data, GIS data, documents and other community data catalogues.

Geospatial Data Display / Access
Access, preview and combine distributed and/or disparate geospatial data and services.

Geospatial Data Dissemination / Publishing
Publish and/or harvest data, services and sensors to the OGC standards-based WES catalogue or the Geospatial Feature Metabase.

Geospatial Data Delivery
Provide immediate delivery of data products, real-time service binding and/or sensor connectivity the to end users including e-commerce capabilities.

Geospatial Collaboration 
Discussion Forums, Document Management, Content Management, Image Library, RSS Clients, Calendar, WIKI Nodes, Blogs and many other portlets are included.

Geospatial Security & User Management
End users can belong to secure, managed ‘Groups’ or ‘Communities’ providing geo-data access control and customized user environments. Users can dynamically access and customize their information and services.
